Joseph Wood Trutch’s 1871 map shows “Rau Shuswap,” an abbreviation of Riviere au Shuswap. The river was still known as the Shuswap in 1910, when Louie Knutson met Shuswap Indians camping nearby (Kiwa Creek was called the Little Shuswap). Because the name conflicted with Shuswap River in the north Okanagan, it was changed to Raush. It appears as the Raush on government maps as early as 1919. The Raush Valley post office operated from 1915 to 1923; there are no known examples of the cancellation mark. References: Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names.
