Perhaps named after Pierre Rois, a French Canadian trapper who in the late 1800s moved from the prairies to Fort St. James, where he met and married Sofie Bouchey. A son, Patrick, enlisted and was killed in the First World War. Gradually, the family’s name became Pierroi (or Pierroy). A street in Prince George is named after the family.
